Punjab has seen this script before. Ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections, the Congress was consumed by infighting, leadership changes and public power struggles, creating what many believed was the perfect opportunity for the Shiromani Akali Dal to stage a comeback. Yet, despite the Congress's turmoil, the Akali Dal suffered one of the worst defeats in its history. Today, as the Congress once again finds itself divided by an internal leadership battle between Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Charanjit Singh Channi, has Sukhbir Singh Badal finally learned from the past and positioned the Akali Dal to reclaim its place as Punjab's principal opposition, or will the party once again fail to convert its rivals' weaknesses into its own political revival ?
