Congress is reportedly trying to reconnect with former Punjab leaders as it prepares for the 2027 elections. But this raises a sharper question about the party’s existing leadership. If Congress already has senior leaders, district heads, youth leaders and long-time workers, why does the party keep looking towards leaders who have already left ? Sunil Kumar Jakhar has denied reports of returning to Congress, making the issue even more pointed: Is Congress failing to value the leaders who stayed, while chasing the leaders who walked away ?

Farmers are protesting over power cuts, MSP, farm debt and other long pending demands, with anger being reported against both the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Punjab and the BJP led Centre. For Congress, this could open political space in rural Punjab ahead of 2027. But farmer anger alone will not decide the political outcome. Congress would need to turn these grievances into a clear campaign, rebuild its rural organisation and convince farmers that it has more to offer than promises. Can Congress turn the growing frustration with the Aam Aadmi Party and BJP into a real political opening, or will it struggle to convert farmer anger into a comeback ?
