By removing Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the rural job guarantee law and replacing MGNREGA with the G Ram G Act, the Narendra Modi Government insists it is honouring Gandhi’s vision of Ram Rajya. But this raises a deeper question. Is invoking Gandhi’s ideals while erasing his name, a genuine tribute or a political rewrite meant to break the symbolic link between welfare, the Gandhi legacy, and the Congress-led past ? And as the Modi Government redefines Gandhian ideas on its own terms, is this about reforming rural employment or about sidelining the Gandhi family’s historical claim over Gandhi’s legacy itself ? Is Gandhi being honoured or strategically repurposed ?

ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੋਜ਼ਗਾਰ ਗਾਰੰਟੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਤੋਂ ਮਹਾਤਮਾ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਟਾ ਕੇ ਮਨਰੇਗਾ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਜੀ ਰਾਮ ਜੀ ਐਕਟ ਲਿਆਂਦੇ ਜਾਣ ‘ਤੇ ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਮੋਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਦੇ “ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜ” ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਦੇ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਸਵਾਲ ਖੜਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੀ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਦੇ ਆਦਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਟਾਉਣਾ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਇਹ ਕਲਿਆਣਕਾਰੀ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ, ਗਾਂਧੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਦੌਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕਾਤਮਕ ਡੋਰ ਤੋੜਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਹੈ ? ਅਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਜ਼ਗਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਦੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ‘ਤੇ ਰਾਹੁਲ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਦਾਅਵੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਸੇ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ? ਤਾਂ ਅਸਲੀ ਸਵਾਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ, ਕੀ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਦਾ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਣਨੀਤਿਕ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ?

ਪਰਮਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪੰਥਕ ਏਕਤਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਹੀ ਸੰਭਵ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਲੰਬੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਕਾਇਆ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਇਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਧੜੇ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਨਵੀਂ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦਰਜ ਕਰਵਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਕਿਰਿਆ-ਯੋਜਨਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਵਿਰੋਧਾਭਾਸ ਇੱਕ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਕਹਾਵਤ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, “ਰੱਸੀ ਸੜ ਗਈ, ਪਰ ਵਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਿਆ।” ਜੇ ਪੰਥਕ ਏਕਤਾ ਹੀ ਅਸਲ ਤਰਜੀਹ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਮੰਚ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਵੰਡ ਕਿਉਂ ਵਧਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ? ਕੀ ਇਹ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਧਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਏਕਤਾ ਦੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਪੇਟ ਕੇ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਅਹਿਮੀਅਤ ਮੁੜ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ?
