From Congress in 2012 (Balachaur candidate), to AAP in 2017, a brief stop with the Akali Dal in 2019, and finally the BJP in 2022, Rajwinder Singh Lucky has covered almost every political camp in Punjab. Now BJP’s district president in Nawanshahr, he finds himself in a seat where the BJP hasn’t even contested the last Assembly elections.

Standing second in both 2017 and 2022, Gurdev Sharma Debi has shown steady presence but has remained just short of the winning line. In 2022, he secured 27,985 votes (28.60%), once again finishing close but not close enough. Two elections, similar results, and the same question returning. Is Debi building a slow and real BJP base or is he stuck in a pattern of coming second without breaking through ? As 2027 approaches, can persistence finally turn into victory or will this seat continue to stop BJP just one step before the finish line ?

In Malout, the BJP has long remained a non-player. For years, the party stayed away from the seat and never managed to make a real dent on its own. Now, as BJP claims it will contest all seats seriously going forward, the obvious question emerges.
