In the 2022 assembly elections, Angad Singh Saini , a former Congress MLA from Nawanshahr, contested as an Independent after being denied the party ticket, and still polled over 31,000 votes, finishing far ahead of the official Congress candidate. He has now returned to the Congress fold, bringing that personal vote base back with him.

ਜਦੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਕਲਿਆਣਕਾਰੀ ਯੋਜਨਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵਿੱਤ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਹਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੀਮਾ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਕਰਜ਼ਾ “ਮੰਜ਼ੂਰਸ਼ੁਦਾ ਹੱਦਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ” ਹੈ, ਉਦੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਗਲੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤਿੰਨ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ₹12,006 ਕਰੋੜ ਹੋਰ ਉਧਾਰ ਲੈਣ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਕੁੱਲ ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ₹4.17 ਲੱਖ ਕਰੋੜ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਆਮਦਨ ਸੂਦ ਅਤੇ ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਚੁਕਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਸਵਾਲ ਸਾਫ਼ ਹੈ, ਕੀ ਇਹ ਵਿੱਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਨ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਰੀ ? ਅਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਰਜ਼ਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਤੋਂ ਮਹਿੰਗਾ ਪੈਣ ਲੱਗੇ, ਤਾਂ ਭਰੋਸੇ ਦੇ ਬਿਆਨ ਢਾਂਚਾਗਤ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ?
