With 21 teacher unions calling for mass casual leave on October 21, the Punjab Government faces growing anger over pending DA arrears, the Old Pension Scheme, employee regularisation and other long-standing demands. The protests raise questions about the Government’s handling of its workforce and the Education Minister’s accountability. The Aam Aadmi Party promised to fix Punjab’s education system, yet teachers are preparing for statewide protests over unresolved demands. If the Government cannot settle the grievances of those running its schools, shouldn’t the Education Minister take responsibility and consider resigning ?

21 ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਯੂਨੀਅਨਾਂ ਨੇ 21 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਚਨਚੇਤ ਸਮੂਹਿਕ ਛੁੱਟੀ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਰੋਸ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ’ਤੇ ਬਕਾਇਆ ਮਹਿੰਗਾਈ ਭੱਤੇ (DA), ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਪੈਨਸ਼ਨ ਸਕੀਮ (OPS), ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਲੰਮੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਲਟਕਦੀਆਂ ਮੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਦਬਾਅ ਵੱਧ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਜਿੱਠਣ ਦੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਦੀ ਜਵਾਬਦੇਹੀ ’ਤੇ ਸਵਾਲ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ। ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਧਾਰਨ ਦਾ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਮੰਗਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੁਣ ਸੂਬਾ ਪੱਧਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਜੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਕੂਲ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤਾਂ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ, ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਲੈਂਦਿਆਂ ਅਸਤੀਫ਼ਾ ਦੇਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੋਚਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ?
