With the Shiromani Akali Dal–BJP alliance talks gaining attention, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has referred an alleged ₹736.96-Crores money laundering case involving Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia to the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The state government has named Majithia as the alleged mastermind and primary beneficiary of a financial network involving companies, foreign entities and assets. Majithia has denied the allegations. Now, the focus shifts to the ED, which works under the BJP-led Central Government. Will the BJP-led Centre allow the ED to pursue the case against Majithia, even as it explores a possible political alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal ?

A) The ED must act on the evidence, regardless of the BJP’s political plans in Punjab.

B) If the alliance talks matter more than action, the BJP risks raising questions about its commitment to fighting corruption.

ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਮੁੜ ਗੱਠਜੋੜ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਰਚਾਵਾਂ ਦਰਮਿਆਨ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਜੀਲੈਂਸ ਬਿਊਰੋ ਨੇ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਆਗੂ ਬਿਕਰਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਜੀਠੀਆ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਕਥਿਤ 736.96 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੇ ਮਨੀ ਲਾਂਡਰਿੰਗ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਇਨਫੋਰਸਮੈਂਟ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟੋਰੇਟ (ਈ.ਡੀ.) ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ। ਸੂਬਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਮਜੀਠੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਪਨੀਆਂ, ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਇਦਾਦਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਕਥਿਤ ਵਿੱਤੀ ਨੈੱਟਵਰਕ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਸੂਤਰਧਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਲਾਭਪਾਤਰੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮਜੀਠੀਆ ਨੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਹੁਣ ਸਭ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਈ.ਡੀ.
